Carvalho latest – Twist in Manchester United talks, Carvalho loves Arsenal and Henry

by Sam Peoples

Manchester United have opened discussions with Sporting Lisbon about the possible availability of William Carvalho suggested two days ago according to reports.

However, Portugal’s A Bola insisted there had been no contact between both clubs about Carvalho in contrast to the English reports.

The 21-year-old has caused a real stir this year because of his rise to fame and Sport Witness revealed that Sporting president Bruno de Carvalho believes he could drive the price towards his €45 million buy-out clause, maximising as much money from Carvalho as possible.

As well as contrasting reports from England and Portugal, the football editor of the Guardian Marcus Christenson believes that Carvalho is a lifelong Arsenal fan, something which places a little doubt over a potential move but not too much as being a fan of one club doesn’t stop you joining another (Wayne Rooney, Wilfried Zaha, etc).

The biggest worry for United is that De Carvalho could force a bidding war if more than club wanted to sign him as it would drive the price up and with the World Cup this summer, prices will already be inflated.

Reports about Carvalho and United are gathering pace now (about time after United spent such a long time scouting him in Portugal) and expect the interest in him to consistently increase until the summer transfer window.
