Manchester United will sign the future world’s best defensive midfielder if €45m William Carvalho joins

William Carvalho’s stock increased even more after his performance yesterday earned widespread plaudits for a man of the match performance against FC Porto.

Up against a Porto midfield of seasoned professionals in Fernando, Steven Defour and Carlos Eduardo, the 21-year-old was as cool as a cucumber and played a vital role in Sporting Lisbon’s 1-0 win that keeps them in second place.

Carvalho really sounds like the real deal.

Almost every game week, his performance is hailed by pundits and fans and to have that level of consistency at the top of the table, at just 21 in your breakthrough season as a professional footballer is very rare.

He is such a powerful footballer and that natural talent to break up play and run it forward is something our current midfielders just don’t do regularly enough.

Competition for Carvalho’s signature will be stiff so if David Moyes is still Manchester United manager in the summer, he’s going to have to go all out to sign Carvalho.
