Manchester United’s long-standing interest in William Carvalho has been well documented this season and now a £37 million fee has been agreed with Sporting Lisbon to sign Carvalho before the World Cup, according to The Mirror.
Steve Bates of the Sunday People suggests Carvalho’s agent was given a tour of Carrington this week and that he will join the club before the World Cup starts, where he is expected to play an important role for Portugal.
The fee is representative of his €45 million release clause and given that the World Cup always inflates the prices of players, if David Moyes did want to sign him then it would be a smart move to secure him before the tournament started.
Nothing has been reported in the Portuguese press today other than the Mirror article and there has been no official confirmation from Sporting Lisbon or Carvalho, so as of right now the reports are unsubstantiated but there should be some developments this week.
Carvalho has consistently been one of the best players in the Portuguese league this year and has been instrumental in their title push this season which is why David Moyes has scouted him more than a dozen times this season.
Will he be the first signing of what is sure to be a busy summer for United?
