Bayern Munich defender Dante has signed a new contract that will keep him at the club until 2017 to put an end to any speculation he was going to join Manchester United.
Back in January, the Brazilian was quoted saying that United were interested in signing him and as David Moyes had been to watch Bayern Munich in action, it looked like United’s interest was genuine.
However, it seems that Dante has done nothing more than use potential interest from Manchester United as a bargaining tool to get a new deal with Bayern Munich.
“It was the best decision of my life to come to Bayern,” Dante said in an official press release.
“Everything here is good: the club, the team, the title wins, the mood. Bavaria is the right club for me. Therefore, I remain very happy to at least 2017 in Munich.
“I am sure that we can still have a lot of fun and success with our team in the coming years. ”
Dante’s situation mirrors that of Toni Kroos in that an improved contract extension is likely the ultimate goal and the fear/reality is that Kroos’ situation will have a similar outcome.
Bayern Munich have now secured Arjen Robben and Dante on new contracts this season but with Kroos determined to wait until after the World Cup to continue negotiations, we’ll have to wait and see if Kroos follows suit or decides to leave the club.
