David Moyes has been busy behind the scenes when it comes to transfer targets and has already agreed provisional deals to sign two players, according to Daniel Taylor from The Guardian.
Since Moyes has arrived, United’s scouting system has been completely overhauled. We have had scouts spotted every week watching games in the likes of Portugal, Italy, France and Spain, and it has not been work in vain if Taylor’s suggestion is proved true.
“United are at least addressing the issue,” Taylor wrote on the topic of United’s much maligned midfield.
“This newspaper’s information is that deals have already been provisionally agreed for two players in what promises to be an extensive recruitment programme over the summer.
“The club have deliberately tried to set up transfers six months in advance. Joel Glazer has been more hands-on than many people might realise, speaking to the executive vice chairman, Ed Woodward, three times a day on average from Florida and the club have been encouraged by the feedback from agents. Not once has there has been an indication that a player might be put off because of the prospect of playing in the Europa League next season.”
Taylor is usually very reliable when it comes to United and the logical question would be what two players have deals already been agreed for?
William Carvalho is the obvious choice given United’s long-standing links with him and reports this week suggested a fee had indeed already been agreed.
Luke Shaw and Adam Lallana are two other potential players who United may have moved early to sign but the duo of Ilkay Gundogan and Toni Kroos are not likely to be either given that they are currently negotiating with their current clubs.
There are plenty of positives to take from this news, least not for the fact that two deals have already reportedly been provisionally agreed. Indications that players are not being put off by United’s likely participation in the Europa League is a real positive while the Glazers very hands on approach hints that United are indeed going to have a very busy summer.
