PICTURE: Van Persie sends message of support ahead of Manchester City game

Robin van Persie might not be able to feature in the Manchester derby tonight but he has sent a message of support to his team-mates ahead of kick-off.

The Dutchman may not play again for Manchester United season after being ruled out for four to six weeks with a sprained knee which means his hat-trick performance against Olympiacos could potentially be his last performance this year.

It means Van Persie has missed both of the derbies this year through injury.

Van Persie’s derby debut last year was a memorable one with his last minute free-kick securing a 3-2 victory at the Etihad but he’ll have to watch tonight from the stands.

It’s never a good thing losing a player of Van Persie’s quality but in his absence against West Ham, Manchester United actually played some of their best football this season as Juan Mata and Shinji Kagawa were allowed to roam with more freedom.

Will David Moyes adopt a similar tactic against Manchester City tonight? It would be a bold decision but United need to be aggressive tonight and take the game to City because if we play like we did against Liverpool, City could hammer us.
