Wayne Rooney hoping to repeat his overhead kick in the Manchester derby

by Sam Peoples

Wayne Rooney‘s volleyed effort against West Ham might have been one of the goals of the season but ahead of the Manchester derby tonight, he has only got one goal on his mind.

His overhead kick back in the February 2011 derby that sealed a 2-1 win for Manchester United was, by Rooney’s admission, the best goal he has ever scored.

“City tomorrow night, wouldn’t mind a repeat of this moment! Haha,” he said.

If you could score a couple of those Rooney, that would be top.

In all likeliness, Rooney is going to be the man who will make the difference if United are to beat City tonight. His goalscoring record in the derby is great – he is the all-time leading goalscorer in the derby with 11 goals and has scored four in his last four Premier League appearances, including a brace against West Ham so he is bang in form.

ROONEY-CITY-BANNER

United are not favourites tonight but on derby day, anything can happen. Form is irrelevant. Maybe Rooney can conjure up another worldy goal tonight, it certainly wouldn’t go amiss.
