David Moyes explains why he hasn’t played Adnan Januzaj

David Moyes believes that Adnan Januzaj has played an incredible amounts of games for a player of his age and wants to ensure he doesn’t suffer from burnout by taking him in and out of the team.

The 19-year-old has not completed the full 90 minutes since the Capital One Cup exit at the hands of Sunderland back at the end of the January.

In that month, Januzaj completed 90 minutes in four consecutive game weeks but it has not happened once since, something Moyes feels has been the right thing to do.

“Adnan has played an incredible amount of games for a 19-year-old,” he said.

“We have to be mindful of that. We have seen signs in training that we have to be careful what we do with him.

“But he is a great talent. He is someone we know will go a long way at United.

“But we are just being careful with him. We have to do the right things and he has played a lot of football.”

This is the second time that Moyes has reiterated the point about Januzaj suffering from burn out but some of Moyes’ decisions to leave him out have been strange, least not United’s capitulation in Athens where his attacking guile could have helped us no end.

With such little game time, there’s little chance of a burn out for Januzaj now so hopefully he can work his way back into the starting XI on a regular basis again, especially as the rest of this season (Bayern Munich aside) effectively means nothing to United.
