[tps_header]Manchester United bowed out of the Champions League tonight.
It was an admirable performance over the two legs given that most expected us to be trounced by Bayern Munich but it was a frustrating two legs nevertheless.
Now, Manchester United need a small miracle if we are going to qualify for the Champions League next year.
Will that happen? Unlikely. [/tps_header]
[tps_title]First half performance was strong[/tps_title]
As has always been the case in European away games, Manchester United set up with a counter attacking mentality and the team executed it perfectly.
Bayern Munich didn’t have a shot on target in the first half. Given, Manchester United didn’t either but if you ask yourself what team would have been more happy with the first half performance, United would certainly be the happier side.
Bayern were almost playing in a tentative fashion. Their full-backs weren’t overlapping and although Patrice Evra was getting isolated, Bayern weren’t able to capitalise.
The prerogative for the first half was making sure we were still in the game for the second 45 and we achieved that.
