Reports from Serbian newspaper Blic suggest that Manchester United are on the verge of announcing the signing of a Serbian footballer.
The reports state that an official confirmation of a transfer is to be expected soon but does not name any players in question.
Blic, who were one of the first newspapers to report Nemanja Matic’s move to Chelsea in the summer, aren’t renowned for pulling stories out of thin air so these reports do have some credibility but they do sound a little far-fetched.
If it was the case that a Serbian was on his way to Old Trafford, who are the likely candidates?
Could Manchester United be bringing back Adam Ljajic? After his decent campaign with Roma, he has scored five and assisted another three in 12 appearances.
Benfica’s Lazar Markovic is another Serbian who everyone is speaking about right now. The 20-year-old has broken into Benfica’s first team just this season.
Then there is FC Twente midfielder Dusan Tadic who earlier this season admitted he was flattered by Manchester United’s interest as well as the likes of Borussia Dortmund’s Neven Subotic.
There are a host of Serbian players United could be linked to but these reports, if true, could be talking about us signing up a youngster rather than a veteran – potentially.
Update – According to Sport Witness, the reports from Blic are to do with Manchester United getting a 17-year-old goalkeeper on trial. It seems that Blic overstated the truth.
So not Markovic, Subotic, Ljajic, Tosic or Mitrovic… 17 year old Vanja Milinkovic-Savic. On trial for 5 or 6 days. Good luck to him.
