David Moyes has got a few more Avios points by flying over to Portugal tonight to watch Benfica take on FC Porto in the O Classico.
This is not the first time that Moyes has taken a trip to Europe as he has racked up the miles after jaunts to Paris, Italy and various trips in England to watch players in action this season.
Who would Moyes have been watching tonight in Portugal? There were five players in action who Manchester United have been linked with at various points this season.
Porto’s Eliaquim Mangala, Alex Sandro and Fernando are the three main players from Porto who we’ve been linked with. Centre-back Mangala, who Manchester City failed to sign at the end of the January transfer window, could potentially be a Nemanja Vidic replacement while left back Alex Sandro is a highly rated option who could be Patrice Evra’s replacement in the summer. Midfielder Fernando is expected to join City in the summer but that isn’t set in stone yet.
For Benfica, Ezequiel Garay and Nicholas Gaitan are two long term targets who Manchester United have been linked with for a long time, Garay more so than Gaitan as up until Moyes’ arrival, he was on his way to Old Trafford.
Known for his meticulous scouting, Moyes has been all around Europe this season and his trip to Portugal is his latest trip in order to take a look at potential signings ahead of what is going to be a busy summer for United.
