Manchester United are willing to spend £12.5 million bid in order to sign Barcelona midfielder Alex Song, according to Goal.
Back in February, reports said that United had made contact with Barcelona about the availability of Song and these fresh reports suggest that initial interest has been followed up.
The 26-year-old has only made 16 appearances for Barcelona this season, the same as the emerging Sergi Roberto, and has been forced to watch from the sidelines because he couldn’t get into the first team.
This is more than likely why the rumours linking him with Manchester United began but is Song the player who is going to transform our midfield?
His signing would scream of another Marouane Fellaini if you ask me – somebody who you know could perform better and who would ultimately frustrate Manchester United fans. That’s the last thing we need. Song would no doubt improve our midfield but then again, so would most midfielders.
This is not the summer for signing midfield outcasts or fringe players. This is the summer where we spend big and the best players around. The time has gone for underinvestment and over-achievement under Sir Alex Ferguson.
