Pierre van Hooijdonk believes that Robin van Persie will stay at Manchester United if Louis van Gaal becomes the manager.
Van Gaal has been linked with the job because David Moyes’ position as manager is far from secure and the Dutchman has made it clear he wants to manage in the Premier League.
Equally so, Van Persie’s future at Manchester United is also not secure because of a topsy turvy season both for United and Van Persie himself where reports have suggested he isn’t happy under Moyes, something which would be rectified with a managerial change.
“Let me tell you one thing: if Van Gaal becomes manager of Manchester United, Van Persie will stay,” he told The Mirror.
“Louis will bring in a number of top players and he will create a whole new team for United – which, we can see, is necessary.”
Moyes staying as United manager doesn’t guarantee that Van Persie is going to leave in the summer but Van Gaal’s arrival would certainly guarantee that he didn’t go anywhere because the pair have a close relationship thanks to the Dutch national team.
Plenty of fans feel that Manchester United should sack Moyes before any more damage is done and if that happened, Van Gaal would be installed as one of the favourites to replace him.
