Arsenal considering shock move for United player they previously tried to sign

Arsenal are considering a £13 million move for Manchester United centre-back Chris Smalling, according to the Daily Star.

Back in 2010, Arsenal tried and failed to sign Smalling before he moved to United and if reports are correct, they are going to make a second approach for him.

Arsene Wenger can try if he wants but Smalling is staying at Old Trafford. Alongside Phil Jones and Jonny Evans, he will play an important role in the future for Manchester United.

The 24-year-old’s future looks secure at Old Trafford and next season, he is likely to be one of our regular centre backs following the departure of Nemanja Vidic and the impending departure of Rio Ferdinand.

Yesterday against Everton, Smalling was forced to play in his unnatural right-back position and he looked like a headless chicken as he does so often there but when used in his natural centre-back position, he has been really impressive this season.

In a summer where there are going to be so many senior players departing, the last thing Manchester United need to do is sell one of our most promising younger players who could potentially be our centre back for the next decade if he fulfils his potential.
