Van Gaal and Keane combination could tear Manchester United further apart

Louis van Gaal has been installed as one of the favourites to become Manchester United’s new manager.

An experienced, fiery Dutchman, he’d certainly bring a cult of personality to the dressing room that we missed under David Moyes and according to The Independent, Roy Keane is being considered to be his assistant.

Reports earlier from the Irish Independent and Irish Examiner support these claims.

As far as an explosive managerial twosome goes, there wouldn’t be many with more fireworks than a Van Gaal and Keane partnership.

For the neuturals it would be great fun but from Manchester United’s perspective, it’s not what we need to steady the ship after Moyes’ failures.

Van Gaal and Keane in the same dressing room could be like locking two wasps in a jar together.

Both exude an authoritarian presence and clashes would be likely. Is that what United need right now?

Also, for Keane to get the job, he’d have to be interviewed by Fergie, something which wouldn’t be pretty.

Keane would certainly keep the players focused and disciplined behind the scenes but the potential for him to clash badly with Van Gaal means it is a partnership United should look to avoid in my opinion.
