Giggs set to drop Mata, start Cleverley and play 4-4-2

Both Ian Ladyman and Mark Ogden, who have been first with a lot of Manchester United news this season, have reported details about who Ryan Giggs will start against Norwich on Saturday.

Tom Cleverley is set to start in an attacking central midfield role alongside Michael Carrick and Danny Welbeck will start up top with Wayne Rooney, leaving Adnan Januzaj and one other winger in a traditional 4-4-2 formation.

Giggs has played 4-4-2 for pretty much his entire career under Sir Alex Ferguson so it is not a surprise to hear his preference might be for that system but this United does not have the players to get the best out of that formation.

As for the player selection, it would be no surprise to see academy graduates Welbeck and Cleverley put straight back in the team. Expect to see James Wilson involved at some point between now and the end of the season too.

Manchester United has been more leaky than a sieve this season and this is the latest in a string of the sort of news that would never have been given to the press under Fergie.

Giggs will probably give some more insight into his team selection at his first press conference this morning at 9.30am.
