Southampton have poured cold water on widespread reports that Manchester United are close to completing a £30 million deal for Luke Shaw.
The South coast club has denied they have received any enquiries or offers for any of their players including Shaw and Lallana, both of whom have been heavily linked with a move to Old Trafford in the summer.
“Reports that some of our players are negotiating transfers are misinformed,” said Southampton director Les Reed.
“As we stand, there have been no enquiries or offers for any of our players. That is the truth.
“No club has been given permission to talk to any of our players.
“We have had a great season and we want to improve on it. We want retain the players we’ve got. They are all contracted and we intend to honour those contracts.
“Any enquiries we get will probably be met with a ‘no, not for sale’. Our intention is to keep this very good team together and build on it by bringing in players to improve on that. We have our targets and these are things we talk about on a daily basis.”
I find it hard to believe that not one club has so much as enquired about any of Southampton’s players given the season they have had, so this could well be nothing more than a diversion tactic from the club.
However, it does leave any move for Shaw up in the air right and it looks unlikely that United would be able to complete a move for Shaw for the time being.
