Toni Kroos issued warning about moving to Manchester United

Amid the furore of Louis van Gaal‘s protracted move to Manchester United, all has gone quiet on the Western Front with regards to Bayern Munich’s Toni Kroos.

Thanks to Steffen Effenberg, that fire has been rekindled.

The ex-Bayern midfielder, who played for the club across six seasons in two different spells, believes Kroos should reject a move away in order to be involved in building a successful era at Bayern.

“Put it this way: If you have the opportunity to form a successful era at Bayern, you should think two or three times about what step to make,” he said.

“Every player feels enormously well in Munich and at the end of the season, there are titles. Kroos is a key figure, a transfer shouldn’t be an issue.

“He is an important and crucial player – for the system and the new philosophy.”

Surely it is somewhat difficult for Kroos to take advice from a man who left Bayern Munich because his opportunities were limited thanks to Lothar Matthaus’ return?

Effenberg’s desire to leave reflects Kroos’ predicament up against the likes of Thiago Alcantara, Javi Martinez and Bastian Schweinsteiger.

Tonight, Kroos will be in action in the Champions League semi-final (if he is picked) and seeing as Jan Aage Fjortoft has quizzed him about Manchester United after his last few appearances in Europe, expect him to do so tonight.
