Ryan Giggs has confirmed that Robin van Persie is in great shape and in contention to play Sunderland this weekend.
Van Persie returned to training last Friday, which puts to bed the rumours his first day back came after David Moyes’ dismissal, and has done well according to Giggs.
“Yeah we’ll just have to wait and see how he goes this week,” he said.
“He came back last Friday and he trained well.
“He just needs to work on his fitness now, so yeah he looked great.”
As has been said previously, it’s good news for Manchester United because Van Persie may have been ruled out for the rest of the season but we could yet see him in a United shirt again before the year is out.
Pretty much all season long, Van Persie cut a frustrated figure under David Moyes but can he become the 2012/13 striker who spearheaded us to the Premier League again?
There have been murmurings of Van Persie leaving in the summer and off the back of this season but if Louis van Gaal comes in this summer, it would breath new life into the Dutchman’s Old Trafford career that could see him return to that devastating form. If he were to, nobody in their right mind would consider selling him.
