Wayne Rooney has suffered a groin injury this week and also currently has a stomach bug which makes him a doubt for the Sunderland game this weekend, Ryan Giggs confirmed to MUTV.
Reports broke last night that Rooney had been sent to hospital to have a scan on his injury but it is not believed his World Cup has been placed in doubt because of this groin strain.
However, any sort of injury is bad news for Rooney because he is a player who depends so much on regular playing time to keep up his match fitness.
If he misses a couple of games before the World Cup, he won’t be 100% fit and a semi-fit Rooney can be extremely frustrating.
From Roy Hodgson’s perspective, he’ll want Rooney to play every match between now and the end of the season if he is going to be on top form for the World Cup.
