Nicky Butt and Paul Scholes were in the crowd at Anfield tonight watching Manchester United take on Liverpool in the Under-21s Barclays Premier League semi-final.
Both have been involved with the Reserves at various points this season and they took control of Manchester United’s Under-19s team in the augural UEFA Youth League that was set up this season to mirror the senior Champions League.
In my mind, unlike the uncertain future of Giggs, Butt and Scholes are odds on to take up jobs working with our Under-21s and Under-18s.
What better people to teach our academy players the trials and tribulations of working their way into the first team than two players who have done it themselves?
Plus, the idea of our players being taught how to pass by Paul Scholes is more than a little bit exciting.
Warren Joyce has done an excellent job with our Under-21s over the years but if there was ever a time for him to pass the baton, maybe it is now with the Class of ’92 coming through into management.
