Tom Thorpe has returned to Old Trafford for a scan following a recurrence of the ankle injury which saw his first loan spell at Birmingham cut short.
Lee Clark confirmed that the knock that Thorpe picked up in Birmingham’s 3 – 1 loss to Leeds United will keep him out for the rest of the season.
“Tom Thorpe took a really bad whack in mid-air when he was blocking a shot,” reported Clark.
“He has gone back to Manchester United for a scan and won’t be available for the last two games.”
He played 11 games at the heart of United’s defence in the Under-21 league before heading out on loan where he made six appearances for Birmingham, even providing the assist for one of fellow loanee Kiko Macheda’s goals.
As far as luck goes, getting injured on your debut at a first loan spell away from Manchester United is bad enough, let alone it happening twice.
