Kluivert coy on whether Van Gaal has agreed Manchester United deal

Patrick Kluivert has told ESPN that he is unsure if Louis van Gaal had signed a deal with Manchester United but insisted his calibre as a coach is something that would make us a better team.

Reports from the press all suggest a deal is to be announced between Manchester United and Van Gaal before Wednesday, and Kluivert is down as one of the favourites to become his assistant manager having worked underneath him at AZ Alkmaar and Holland.

While Kluivert didn’t reveal any more details about a Van Gaal deal, his choice of ‘yet’ is surely indicative that it is now a matter of when, rather than if, Van Gaal is announced as Manchester United’s new manager.

“I think he didn’t sign yet so I can’t say nothing about it… [but] I think he can let big teams play even better and win important prizes,” Kluivert said.

“I think he’s got a lot of qualities but the most important thing he can make any team play better than they are. That’s very important. He wins games.

“Louis is a great trainer. He proves with different types of teams that he can manage to be champion. He is sophisticated, absolutely. It’s a pleasure to work with him.

“I have an absolutely warm relationship with him, but if you know the trainer and the man, he is very straight to everybody. I think that’s very important if you play high-level soccer that you are very straight with people. Some people say he is like a general, some say he is a nice man, and every human being is not the same, you know. I work with a lot of pleasure with him, I still work with him absolutely. I can only have positive words for Van Gaal.”

One thing is for sure, Van Gaal carries his own cult of personality with him wherever he goes. Ex-players and coaches have both stood for and against Van Gaal’s methods and Kluivert has become the latest to stand in support.

It is interesting to hear from Kluivert saying how he has a warm relationship with Van Gaal, showing he’s not just a closed book.

A deal may not yet be announced but with Holland beginning their World Cup training camp on Wednesday, it should be happening in the next 72 hours if Van Gaal is indeed going to be our new manager.
