SC Freiburg’s Matthias Ginter has agreed personal terms with Borussia Dortmund according to German newspaper Kicker and is set to sign in a deal worth €10 million.
Manchester United’s interest in Ginter started back in March when Moyes saw him in action in Germany and speculation grew after Ginter admitted he was honoured by United’s interest in him.
This season, Ginter has also played in central midfield and defensive midfield roles for Freiburg on 11 occasions so has some real versatility to his game, something which would have put him in good stead at United.
Ginter has all the makings of a world class defender and at the age of 20, he has already made his full international debut with Germany, so Dortmund would have done very well to secure him early on in the window.
If United want to bring in a new centre back to replace the outgoing Nemanja Vidic and probably Rio Ferdinand too, it looks like we will have to search elsewhere.
