Butt: Giving youth players debuts is what we want at Manchester United

by Sam Peoples

Nicky Butt wants Manchester United to continue their tradition of bringing youngsters through into the first team.

James Wilson and Tom Lawrence will make their debut tonight at Old Trafford while Adnan Januzaj also starts alongside them with fellow academy graduate Michael Keane on the bench.

They become the 208th and 209th academy graduates to make their debut tonight and Butt hopes that Manchester United will always continue that tradition.

“We’ve got four young lads in the squad who have come right through the ranks,” he said before kick-off.

“Three of them have been at the club since they were eight years old. That’s what we want at Manchester United and it’s been like that right through the club’s history. They bring us energy and speed and they’re very good players.”

It’s exciting to see the youth brought into the first team and hopefully they can have a memorable debut and follow in the footsteps of Januzaj next season.
