Likely XI: Manchester United vs Hull City – Kagawa, Mata and RVP start

by Tom Newbold

David de Gea – Unless Manchester United’s other goalkeepers get given a late season run-out, De Gea will be in goal yet again.

Phil Jones – Jones is set to continue at right-back with Rafael not quite ready to return to the starting XI.

Chris Smalling – Two matches in four days may prove too much for Rio Ferdinand, giving a chance for Smalling to impress before Roy Hodgson announces his World Cup squad.

Nemanja Vidic – Ankle ligament to Jonny Evans has ruled him out for the season, meaning Vidic is a near-certainty to be given a start in his last home game for United.

Patrice Evra – This may also be Evra’s last game for United at Old Trafford.

Antonio Valencia – Not involved at the weekend, Valencia will probably return for Tuesday night’s fixture.

Marouane Fellaini – A poor performance from Michael Carrick at the weekend means Fellaini may gain his first minutes under interim boss Ryan Giggs.

Tom Cleverley – Despite not featuring at the weekend, Cleverley may be given a run-out against Hull.

Shinji Kagawa – Kagawa is another not to have been involved at the weekend and may well start on the left in this match unless Giggs decides to call on Danny Welbeck out wide instead.

Juan Mata – Yet to complete 90 minutes after Giggs, the £37 million man was one of the few United players at the weekend deserving of another starting spot so soon.

Robin van Persie – Back from injury and with minutes under his belt from the weekend, the Dutchman is set to lead the line on Tuesday.

Formation: 4-2-3-1

Ryan Giggs’ surprise selection at the weekend proves he may be just as random as Sir Alex Ferguson and David Moyes in relation to team selections.

It is highly likely that Van Persie will return to the starting XI for this fixture, whilst Evans remains injured. It also appears to early for Rooney and Rafael to be back involved in action.

Giggs has suggested he may well put himself on the bench for this game but it would be a big surprise to see the Welshman start.
