William Carvalho has been named Young Player of the Month in Portugal for the third time this season after receiving 41.3% of the vote ahead of Academia’s Salvador Agra who got 15.6% of the vote.
The 22-year-old missed out on the Player of the Month award as that was given to Benfica’s Lima.
That now puts Carvalho on four Player of the Month awards and three Young Player of the Month awards which is a testament to how much impact he has had on the Portuguese league this season.
Ever since reports suggested Carvalho had already signed a deal to join Manchester United in the summer, talk surrounding him had quietened down until the past week.
The Telegraph’s Mark Ogden suggested United had already held talks with his representatives while Sporting Lisbon’s president Bruno de Carvalho admitted he would be powerless to stop Carvalho leaving if United paid his €45 million release clause.
With the season coming to a close, expect the Carvalho rumours to really start gathering pace and if the early reports were correct, he will be announced as a United player within the next five weeks.
