David de Gea has been named Sir Matt Busby and Players’ Player of the Year at Manchester United’s end of season awards tonight.
There was only ever one candidate for both awards and De Gea is a deserved winner.
The Spaniard has been a shining light for Manchester United in what has been, on the whole, a thoroughly depressing season.
It didn’t matter how poor the players in front of him were playing, De Gea’s performances never slipped which is a testament to how much he has grown since joining United. Without De Gea in the side, our season would have been a whole lot worse.
De Gea has transformed himself from a shy, unassuming goalkeeper susceptible to a few mistakes into a reliable, fantastic goalkeeper who has now been named our Player of the Season in just three years.
Well done Dave.
