Midfielder pledges to show Manchester United what he can do next season

Marouane Fellaini has pledged to show Manchester United fans what he can really do next season after an underwhelming first campaign at Old Trafford.

The £27.5 million midfielder came to United with big expectations on his shoulders that comes with the pricetag but instead of replicating his indomitable performances from his Everton days, Fellaini’s season passed without so much of a whimper.

Injuries certainly curtailed his progress but it was no excuse for some of the tripe he showed on the pitch but despite that, Fellaini is confident next season will be able to express himself more next year.

“I will look to show what I can do next season,” he told The Telegraph.

“It was difficult because for two months I did the preparation with Everton and I didn’t know if I would go or not. But in the end I wanted my transfer and I signed for Manchester United. It was a lot of stress but good in the end.”

Fellaini’s performances have symbolised David Moyes’ reign at United – lost at sea, overwhelmed and ultimately not good enough to be at the club. He’s had plenty of opportunities to impress but instead of showing up against the big teams, he has disappeared into his hell and used his elbows to fend off anyone who tried to get him out of it.

Is Fellaini good enough to make it at United? His performances this season suggest not. He singled out Roy Keane as one of his idols growing up but he couldn’t be further removed from Keane.

His future, like every United player, depends on the new manager coming in and what they want to do with the team but if Fellaini does get a chance at redemption next season, he’s going to have to dig in and begin showing the sort of performances that convinced a lot of United fans he could be a success at Old Trafford.

However, if Tom Cleverley and Anderson were both given repeated chances at United, is it only fair Fellaini gets the same treatment or is now the time for United to be ruthless?
