Report – Manchester United eyeing up £25 million move for Mats Hummels

by Sam Peoples

Manchester United want to bring in Borussia Dortmund’s Mats Hummels to replace the outgoing Rio Ferdinand, according to the Express.

Previously, Hummels went on the record saying he would rather win one championship as a key player than four championships as a part-time player, something which would have ruled him out of a move to United but now that Ferdinand and Vidic are both set to leave United this summer, there is certainly a place for Hummels in the side.

Chris Smalling, Phil Jones and Jonny Evans don’t give United enough quality at the back and we’ll need to bring in a world class centre back if possible.

Borussia Dortmund did not enjoy the best of campaigns this season and neither did Hummels but quality stands the test of time and he is still a great centre back with the potential to get better.

A ball playing defender like Ferdinand was in his pomp, Hummels is not afraid to bring the ball out of defence and play it out from the back, something which would help United no end.

If Ferdinand or Vidic had stayed on, United would more than likely have not brought in a new centre back but with such little depth with them not in the squad, it’s imperative United look at a new centre back.

Should United be looking at bringing in Hummels this summer?
