Louis van Gaal‘s unveiling as Manchester United manager has now been delayed until next week due to his preparations for Holland’s friendly against Ecuador.
Due to Ryan Giggs’ flying out to Holland yesterday to meet Van Gaal, an announcement looked on the cards today but in order to honour Van Gaal’s commitments to Holland, they have been pushed back for what seems the nth time.
The Telegraph have said: “United and Van Gaal have agreed terms over the 62-year-old become manager at Old Trafford as replacement for the sacked David Moyes.
“But with minor contractual issues still to be signed off, both United and Van Gaal have opted to shelve plans to confirm his appointment until after the weekend fixture against fellow World Cup qualifiers Ecuador.”
Surely this continous flirtation with the United job but no real announcement either way is a bigger distraction to Van Gaal than simply confirming it and getting it out of the way?
It points towards a poor negotiation process from United and with one of our most important summer transfer periods ahead, it won’t fill United fans with any confidence that Ed Woodward will avoid a repeat of last summer.
