Louis van Gaal has spoken for the first time since being announced as Manchester United manager in an interview for Dutch televsion.

Something really encouraging was Van Gaal admitting part of the reason he was chosen for the job by United’s board was because of his track record of promoting academy graduates.

Adnan Januzaj‘s breakthrough this season was one of the shining lights of the campaign while James Wilson and Tom Lawrence also burst onto the scene at the end, and both could feature for Van Gaal next year.

The Dutchman also talked about the current situation with transfers and how he spoke to Jose Mourinho first after getting the job. Poor old Mourinho must have thrown his phone against the wall after finding out someone got his dream job ahead of him for the second time in 12 months.
