William Carvalho confirms he’ll stay at Sporting which rules out United move

William Carvalho has ruled out leaving Sporting Lisbon this summer and insisted he will return to the club after the World Cup.

The 22-year-old midfielder was watched by Manchester United scouts more than a dozen times this season and reports from the British press suggested a deal had already been agreed, although they were never backed up by the local Portuguese press.

Now, Carvalho has confirmed his future is already set at Sporting.

“My future is set. I’ll return to Sporting Lisbon after the World Cup,” he said.

“I’m a Sporting player to 2018. Everything else is just speculations.”

Given that Carvalho has only been offered a pay rise to just €7,000 a week, a figure which would be dwarfed if he moved to a bigger club in Europe, it’s a surprise to hear him speak so matter of fact about his future being set at Sporting.

As is always the case in football, you can never rule out any possibility until a deadline has passed but if Carvalho stays true to his word then United will have to look elsewhere for midfield reinforcements this summer.
