Luis Enrique dodged directly answering questions about the future of Cesc Fabregas in his first press conference as Barcelona manager.
Coming in after a trophyless season, Enrique is going to be under severe pressure from the outset to get Barcelona back to winning ways in much the same fashion as Louis van Gaal is at Manchester United.
Fabregas’ future is up in the air with reports suggesting he is available and circumstances indicating a move is possible, so Enrique is going to have to make some big decisions relatively quickly at Barcelona.
“We are not getting into all the names now. We do not have to make decisions now, we have time,” he responded when questioned about Fabregas.
That being said, Enrique was all too pleased to discuss having Messi and Neymar in his side and was willing to talk about Xavi and Mascherano, but didn’t want to directly discuss Fabregas.
Last summer, Tata Martino was continuously asked about Fabregas’ future until the player himself pledged his commitment to the club in a press conference. Expect the same to happen this year but whether the conclusion will be a similar result remains to be seen.
