Mats Hummels’ agent and father has told talkSPORT he has had no contact with Manchester United over a possible move in the summer.
Following the departures of Nemanja Vidic and Rio Ferdinand, United could well be in the market for a new centre back which is why Hummels has been linked.
Over the past few years, the 25-year-old has been one of the best centre backs around and following Van Gaal’s appointment, players from the Bundesliga are considered far more attainable targets but at this stage, United have not been in contact.
“He’s not contacted me about Mats moving to Manchester (United) though.
“I have heard some rumours but Mats is happy at Dortmund at the moment, and only thinking about the World Cup.”
Earlier this season, Hummels said he would rather win one trophy as an important player rather than four as a squad player and at the time, it effectively ruled him out of a move to United given how many centre backs we had but now that Vidic and Ferdinand have gone, the potential for him to become a first team player is there if Van Gaal wants him.
Jonny Evans, Phil Jones and Chris Smalling are good defenders but they are all injury prone and not the finished product yet, so Van Gaal could decide to add a top class centre back to the squad like Hummels.
