Louis van Gaal has declared he doesn’t want to sign Toni Kroos – report

Louis van Gaal has taken the decision to not pursue Bayern Munich’s Toni Kroos and has ended Manchester United’s pursuit of him, according to The Guardian.

Despite the fact that Bayern have admitted they will not give Kroos an improved contract offer and the fact that Kroos is exactly the player United need, Jamie Jackson has reported we won’t even be looking to sign him.

He said: “Kroos, who impressed in a deep-lying role when Bayern knocked United out of last season’s Champions League, has only a year left to run on his contract at the German club.

“Yet despite his ability to also play in the No10 role or as box-to-box midfielder, Van Gaal, who is aware of Kroos’s abilities from his own time managing Bayern, has decided he should not be a target for the club this close season.”

Why in the world would Van Gaal not pursue Kroos? World class, what United need, Van Gaal already knows him and above all else, available. Could it be that Van Gaal believes Kroos is simply flirting with United and knows he doesn’t want to leave?

Jackson’s either trying to burst the Kroos shaped bubble that news of Bayern’s unwillingness to offer him a new deal gave United fans or he knows something nobody else does.

As we’re remaining optimistic, we’ll believe the former until the likes of Mark Ogden, Ian Ladyman or Jason Burt come out and say otherwise but just as you think it is looking likely United can land Kroos this summer, it takes another twist. This is Wesley Sneijder all over again isn’t it?
