United could leave Liverpool empty handed after agent confirms we’ve approached attacker

The agent of Yevhen Konoplyanka has revealed Manchester United have watched the Ukrainian winger in action on more than one occasion this season, sparking rumours of our interest.

In January, Konoplyanka looked set to move to Liverpool but a deal fell through which meant he stayed at his current club FC Dnipro Dnipropetrovsk.

Now, his agent is putting United’s name into the mix alongside Liverpool and Schalke who are chasing his signature.

“Almost everyday, I receive more than 5 calls from my colleagues asking about Konoplyanka,” he said.

“Information that Liverpool are not interested in him is untrue. If English clubs make an offer, he’s likely to accept.

“Recently there’s been increased interest in Konoplyanka from Man United. Their representatives have watched several games.

“In the case of Manchester United, Konoplyanka understands that he will lose the opportunity to play Champions League. Recently, there have been active calls from Schalke. If famous foreign clubs stop their interest, he’d stay here.”

Who is Konoplyanka? He is a 24-year-old winger who has 11 goals and two assists in 30 appearances this season, and here is an obligatory Youtube compilation video.

Of course, his agent could just be fabricating United’s interest to drive up his price and in any case, Liverpool can have him.

Ukrainian players have struggled to adapt to the Premier League in the past (for example, Shevchenky and Voronin) and there’s nothing to suggest Konoplyanka won’t suffer the same fate.

If United are going to buy a new winger this summer, we need to sign somebody top class rather than an unknown entity like Konoplyanka.
