PICTURE: De Gea and Mata named in Spain’s final World Cup squad

David de Gea and Juan Mata have been named in Spain’s final 23-man squad for the World Cup this summer in Brazil.

A spot on the plane was all but guaranteed for De Gea as the initial 30-man squad only had three goalkeepers in it but Mata’s place wasn’t completely secure.

However, Vicente Del Bosque has made the right decision to take them both to Brazil.

What a year it has been for De Gea in terms of personal achievement. He may not get any minutes out in Brazil but that is irrelevant as he is now in the senior Spain squad and is Manchester United’s undisputed No. 1 goalkeeper, at the age of 23.

As for Mata, he earned himself that spot on the plane but in the Spain side, few players are guaranteed game time.

If all goes well, both will come back to United as World Cup winners and what a boost that give them.
