Van Gaal contacts German midfield star to help complete Manchester United move – reports

Louis van Gaal has personally been in touch with Toni Kroos to try and convince him to move to Manchester United instead of Real Madrid, according to El Confidencial in Spain.

They suggest Van Gaal telephoned Kroos to persuade him that United is the right place to move and go in direct contrast to various reports that suggested he wasn’t interested at all in the 24-year-old.

Alongside Sport, that is two separate Spanish newspapers in the past week who have reported that United’s interest in Kroos is very much alive and are Real Madrid’s main competitor for Kroos’ signature.

Madrid are no strangers to spending big fees on players but any pursuit of Kroos would more than likely mean an exit of any number of central midfielders including Sami Khedira, Asier Ilarramendi or Luka Modric, something which could also benefit United if it were to happen.

With negotiations over a new deal stalling and Kroos’ contract up in 2015, Bayern Munich face the prospect of losing one of Europe’s best central midfielders for free if he were to see out the remainder of his contract, hence why speculation linking him with a move away has continued.

Are United interested in Kroos or not? Contrasting reports surface every week and until anything is officially confirmed, they will continue but these latest ones indicate any move from United for Kroos is far from dead.
