It was inevitable Manchester United were going to be linked with a move for Daley Blind following his outstanding performance against Spain last week and Dutch newspaper De Telegraaf have claimed Louis van Gaal will consider him a serious candidate this summer if his performances continue.
The 24-year-old left-back has been labelled a possible Luke Shaw alternative following the delays in negotiatons with Southampton over a deal for him.
Blind, who plays his club football for Ajax, enjoyed an outstanding season last year and was named the best player in the Eredivisie, an award which was all the more impressive given that he played half his time as a left-back and the rest as a defensive midfielder.
All the way through his youth career, Blind stood out from the crowd and he was named Ajax’s talent of the year back when he was captain of the Under-18s side. Since then, he has worked his way up to the senior team and Van Gaal will have followed his progress with a close eye.
At this stage, the links are mainly based around his performance against Spain but in order to learn more about Blind, we’ll be speaking to a Dutch specialist to get some insight into why Blind could be a great option for United.
