Alexander Buttner is on his way out of Manchester United and will join Russian side Dynamo Moscow, his agent has told De Telegraaf.
The 25-year-old never managed to usurp Patrice Evra to become United’s first choice left-back and although his performance against Arjen Robben in the Champions League was more than admirable, Van Gaal has obviously made it clear Buttner is not part of his plans.
A better winger than a defender, Buttner won’t be missed by (m)any United fans because he was a liability at the back and with a deal for Luke Shaw in the pipeline, it’s the right time for him to leave.
“Van Gaal never gave me the chance in the Dutch national team, despite being voted man of the match fourteen times at Manchester United,” Buttner said.
“Apparently, he is not very confident about me. So I think this is the right moment to leave.”
Given that Buttner only played 28 times for United, we’ll presume Buttner’s claims of being voted man of the match 14 times is a case of mistranslation because even if you include his Under-21s performances, he got nowhere near that figure.
With a more impressive Instagram account than anything else, Buttner was never going to make it as a United player and out in Russia, he’ll have the chance to hold down a first team place again, so good luck to him.
