Mitten: Cavani has an offer to join Manchester United

by Sam Peoples

Manchester United have made Edinson Cavani an offer to join the club this summer, according to Andy Mitten.

Speaking on his PlayUp account, Mitten suggests the offer is on the table but that Cavani is having reservations about a move due to what position he’d be given in the squad.

The reason he has grown frustrated at Paris St Germain is because he doesn’t want to work in the shadow of Zlatan Ibrahimovic anymore, but he would be in a very similar situation at United.

Robin van Persie is likely to become the focal point of attention under Louis van Gaal and with Wayne Rooney already jostling for the attention, as well as Danny Welbeck and Javier Hernandez, Cavani would be in no better a position than he currently is with PSG, especially given that Van Gaal is likely to play with one striker in a 4-3-3 formation.

However, the most salient point of all this is that United have absolutely no need for Cavani with our current strikeforce and incoming manager.

If United have indeed submitted an offer for Cavani to move to Old Trafford, it reeks of an Ed Woodward trophy signing, a player completely unnecessary for United to buy because there are so many world class players who we could better spend £50m on than Cavani.
