Manchester United have now officially announced the signing of Ander Herrera on a four-year deal with the option to extend it a further year.
Herrera paid his release clause to the Spanish FA this afternoon allowing him to become a free agent and United have confirmed his move to Old Trafford.
The 24-year-old has become the first signing of Louis van Gaal‘s reign as Manchester United manager and he could be the first of many in what is going to be a very busy summer.
One thing that is quite funny about the picture is that United are set to unveil their new kit in less than two weeks time.
Athletic Bilbao may have dug their heels in to ensure they saved face as a club but United negotiated the situation very well and Herrera has been signed before his release clause increased to €40m on 1 July.
