Manchester United send delegates to open negotiations for €45m midfielder – reports

Manchester United officials were in Portugal this week to discuss a potential move with William Carvalho’s representatives, according to Portuguese outlet Zero zero.

Carvalho has been watched by United on far more than one occasion this season and the British press went as far as to suggest a deal was in place for Carvalho prior to the World Cup. As it turned out, nothing materialised but it hasn’t stopped the rumours from resurfacing.

Zero zero report that United have no intention of paying Carvalho’s full €45m release clause and would be looking to negotiate, an area in which Ed Woodward has earned plenty of fans in the past few days.

Carvalho, 22, has just returned from an unsuccessful World Cup campaign with Portugal where they were knocked out at the group stages and the focus for him has now turned to securing his future.

Only this week, Carvalho insisted, for the first time on record, that his future at Sporting Lisbon wasn’t guaranteed and that he’d move elsewhere, in stark contrast to his adamant denials of any thoughts previously.

As much as Ander Herrera‘s style helps United, we need a ball winning, dominant midfielder who would be a real presence for United – step forward Carvalho.

With United delegates in Lisbon to discuss a potential deal, it looks like United are re-kindling their approaches of players who were on David Moyes’ list and having signed Ander Herrera and Luke Shaw, Carvalho could be next on that list.
