Here is the latest Manchester United transfer gossip round-up from the past 24 hours.
Manchester United’s pursuit of Arturo Vidal has increased in intensity thanks to reports from Italy that suggested he preferred a move to United instead of Real Madrid and that direct and indirect talks had already begun. The same reports from Tuttosport in Italy also placed a €60m price tag on his purchase, a figure which was backed up by ESPN’s Miguel Delaney later in the evening.
Phil Neville believes the arrival of Luke Shaw and Ander Herrera is just the beginning for United in this transfer window and fans will certainly be hoping that is the case as there are still plenty of gaps that need to be filled in the squad.
Moving onto some defensive news, the Manchester Evening News has reported that a new centre-back is now the focus of United in the transfer market. It would certainly make sense if that were to be the case because our only three centre-backs are the injury prone Chris Smalling, Jonny Evans and Phil Jones, and The Express believes that player could be Thomas Vermaelen.
Elsewhere, it has been revealed that United turned down the opportunity to sign World Cup star James Rodriguez for just £5m prior to his move to FC Porto and instead chose to sign Bebe. As far as bad decisions go, that would be up there with letting Paul Pogba leave.
