Manchester United got off to a great start in their defence of their Dale Farm Milk Cup Premier Section title with an emphatic 11-0 (eleven) victory over Gold Coast’s academy.
United’s Under-17s opened the scoring when Marcus Rashford‘s free-kick sailed into the top corner. Trialist Ogo Obi scored the next two goals, firstly by rifling the ball into the roof of the net before sending home a close range finish to put United 3 – 0 up.
Rashford then scored his second, getting on the end of a lovely through ball from Callum Gribbin. Gribbin was once again on hand to provide the assist for United’s 5th goal, finding Demetri Mitchell who rounded the keeper before slotting home on the stroke of half-time.
The young Reds were cruising but that didn’t stop them wanting more in the second half. They came out of the traps all guns blazing.
Mitchell chipped the keeper to make it 6-0 and soon after scored his hat-trick goal by blasting a powerful shot into the roof of the net.
Zak Dearnley came on to replace Rashford and immediately provided an assist, setting up Mitchell for his fourth goal of the evening before Jordan Thompson turned provider for Dearnley, who slotted in from the cross.
Travis Johnson dribbled past three Gold Coast Academy players before beating the keeper to score United’s tenth goal of the evening.
Finally, Thompson beat the oppositions whole defence with an outstanding goal into the bottom corner to wrap up a fantastic victory for United.
The lads are in action again tomorrow evening when they’ll take on Co. Armagh at the Riada Stadium (20:00pm kick-off)
