Manchester United’s move for Arturo Vidal has been given a new lease of life by the Italian press as Gazzetta dello Sport have claimed his agent Fernando Felichevich will present a €60m offer from Manchester United and that Juventus would only be willing to accept if Vidal was happy to leave.
Vidal returned from holiday this week and Gazzetta are reporting that Felichevich will put forward United’s offer and believe it is too good for Juventus to turn down. They also say United would be willing to offer Vidal a four-year contract worth €8m a season which would effectively double what he currently earns at Juventus after a recent contract renewal.
After murmurings that Louis van Gaal wasn’t interested in pursuing Vidal, these fresh reports have re-ignited the speculation linking the Chilean to Old Trafford and it’s interesting to see how the story has developed in Italy, specifically with Gazzetta dello Sport.
Just under two weeks ago, Gazzetta reported United had returned with an improved offer for Vidal following the announcement of a world record deal with Adidas and prior to that in June, Gazzetta claimed United were preparing a €45m bid for Vidal.
Earlier this week, Gazzetta insisted that United’s move for Vidal had not become dead in the water and have followed it up with these latest reports.
Elsewhere, former Juventus sporting director Luciano Moggi believed €50m was too good to turn down for 27-year-old Vidal, so figures between €40m and €60m have been placed on Vidal’s head at various points by the press.
All in all, there are conflicting reports of Vidal around every corner and there are likely to be established journalists in the British press who downplay these latest reports from Italy but with Vidal now back in Turin, it shouldn’t be too long before there is some more clarity on what really is happening with the Chilean.
