PICTURE: Rooney named MOTM against Liverpool and wins Player of the Tournament

Wayne Rooney was rewarded for his strong performances in the International Champions Cup by being named Player of the Tournament.

Rooney was Manchester United’s top scorer in the competition with five goals and did play an integral part in the side winning the overall tournament.

He was also named Man of the Match against Liverpool in a game where he wore the United armband for the first time under Louis van Gaal.

After his performance, Ashley Young deserved to be named Man of the Match against Liverpool but Rooney took the plaudits after his equaliser.

As for Rooney being named Player of the Tournament, United had a few outstanding candidates such as Darren Fletcher and Young who would both have been deserving winners if they were given the trophy.

That wasn’t the only thing that Rooney got on tour as he also seemingly gained himself another fan, NFL Hall of Famer Warren Sapp:
