Van Gaal reveals why he hasn’t mentioned names of any transfer targets

Manchester United are set to be busy in the last month of the summer transfer window but Louis van Gaal is still keeping his cards close to his chest.

The Dutchman doesn’t want to divulge the names of any players who may or may not be moving to Old Trafford this summer because he feels the public attention could affect the price of the player in question.

“I can not talk about players in the media. The price goes up,” he told reporters who questioned him on signings.

Van Gaal’s shrewd judgement is a fair reflection on the current market for United.

With just four weeks to go, every team knows the club has money to spend this summer and intends to buy more players. If any caught wind that United were genuinely interested in their player, there is every chance that could be reflected in an increased price.

What the signings of Luke Shaw and Ander Herrera showed us is that United haven’t lost their ability to negotiate behind the scenes and the silence with regards to targets such as Arturo Vidal certainly makes sense from United’s perspective in this respect.

The very public failure to sign Cesc Fabregas showed fans last year how damaging a public campaign can be for the club and it seems, for the time being at least, everything will remain out of sight with United.
