Manchester United were put on the back foot for the whole first half against Manchester City tonight in the MSC final but James Wilson scored a wonderful solo goal just before half-time to get United right back in the game.
Picking the ball up near the half way line, Wilson confidently ran at the City defence, jinked in and out of a few tackles and then slotted home into the bottom corner with his weaker foot.
Wilson makes finishing looks easy.
United really underperformed in the first half yet went into the half-time break level and it was all down to Wilson’s desire and ability to score.
Wilson didn’t stop there either as only a few minutes into the second half, Wilson gave United the lead with what was another fine finish.
The game had turned on its head and Wilson completed a fantastic hat-trick when Ben Pearson fed him with a lovely through ball and he made no mistake once again.
Unbelievably, Wilson hadn’t even finished and he saved arguably his best goal until last. He exquisitely took a pass in his stride, looped it over his own head, ran towards goal and confidently tucked it away.
Four goals for United. Four goals for Wilson. He now has 28 goals in his last 31 appearances at every level with United.
It really is a matter of when rather than if Louis van Gaal will give him a chance in United’s first team like Ryan Giggs did last year where he scored a brace on his debut.
